Funny stories from IT Support

IT Support is a specialised industry, and it’s one of those things that can be completely alien to others. If computers aren’t your thing, then at least please don’t be one of these guys! Give us a call and we’ll help you with all your IT Support needs.

Customer: *calling my office phone* “My scanner hasn’t worked for two weeks! Why haven’t you fixed it yet?”

(I glance at my computer, checking my tickets. Nothing in this person’s name.)

Me: “Have you called a ticket in? What is the ticket number?”

Customer: “I don’t have time for that!”

Me: “Well, luckily, I have a gap between appointments and can come over to look at it now.”

(I head over.)

Customer: “See? Nothing.”

Me: “How long has it been unplugged?”

(I work in internal computer support. One afternoon I get a call from an older gentleman.)

Me: “[Company] help desk. How can I help you?”

Caller: “Make the information available. Do it.”

Me: “What information do you need?”

Caller: “Just do it!”

Me: “I’m sorry; I need a little more context here. What are you calling about?”

Caller: “The email said to call you and make the information available so I am calling you!”

Me: “The information about what? What email are you referring to? What is the topic?”

Caller: “I have no idea. I was just following orders!” *hangs up*

(A big part of my job involves helping users log on to the company website.)

Me: “Remember, the new password that you create must contain at least one letter and at least one number.”

Customer: *becoming irate* “What? One number? How am I supposed to remember that?”

Me: “I would suggest just choosing a word and then putting the number one at the end of it.”

Customer: “I’m never going to remember that! Can I use two numbers?”

Me: “Yes, as long as you have at least one number.”

Customer: “But, wait just a minute. I have another question. Can I use three numbers?”

Me: “…yes.”

Customer: “I’ve bought some car speakers and fitted them, but now there’s no sound from my stereo. Do you know what it might be?”

Me: “I think you should go to the people you bought the speakers from and ask their advice. They’ve made money from you!”

Customer: “I have, but they want to charge me!”

Me: “And you think I don’t?!”

(He left.)

(I am helping someone over the phone with a computer issue they are having.)

Me: “Okay, could you take a print screen shot of the issue and email it as an attachment to us?”

Customer: “Sure.”

(A few minutes pass and the email comes through. The customer had taken a picture of the computer screen with their phone, printed it, taken ANOTHER picture of that, and sent it!)

Customer: “I’m not getting my emails on my phone.”

Me: “Okay, your email isn’t syncing because you haven’t typed your password in.”

Customer: “What’s my password?!”

Me: “I don’t know sir; it would be whatever you originally chose for a password.”

Customer: “Well, I don’t remember. Why don’t you know it?!”

Me: “That would negate the purpose of a password, sir. You don’t WANT me to know your password. Your email accounts have nothing to do with [Company].”

Customer: “AND YOU CALL YOURSELF CUSTOMER SERVICE?!” *storms out*
